2020 Statement re: COVID-19

Yes! Camp is still happening!

...but things are changing all the time, so read below to learn more details and answers to your questions.

The Office of Christian Formation and Shrine Mont Camps are closely monitoring news regarding the COVID-19/Coronavirus. The Coronavirus currently poses no immediate concern for our camping program and we will continually update our policies and response as needed.

Shrine Mont Camps has communicable disease plans in place that will be revised as necessary in light of recommendations from public health authorities, the American Camp Association, and our camp medical team. This will happen as additional COVID-19 guidance is provided. Shrine Mont Camps will work to maintain effective protocols for the identification and appropriate treatment of any illnesses that may occur at camp, including COVID-19. We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Remember to fill out your health history parts 1-3 (online) before camp and submit a doctor-signed physical examination form (either online via email/fax) to Megan at mnolde@thediocese.net or 804-644-6928 (fax).

The health and safety of our entire camp community is of the utmost importance to us. Shrine Mont Camps will update our health and wellness screening policies and procedures as needed to reflect the current best practices recommended by public health authorities. When this is done, we will communicate these updates in a timely manner with parents and staff. Thank you for your continued trust in our camping program.

We encourage you to read through the FAQ section below, we will update it as our decisions and policies emerge – if you do not find the answer to your question, please feel free to contact Paris, Megan, or Sierra if you have further questions or concerns about this or any matter. Our contact information is at the bottom of this page.

FAQs about 2020 Camps:

  • Question: Are we having camp this year?

    • Yes! We are committed to the health and safety of our entire camp community, so of course we are considering all implications of this. But for now – plan for camp this summer!

  • Question: What’s the updated refund policy?

    • We have amended our refund policy to allow more room for families to feel confident signing their loved ones up for camp. Cancellations for any reason 7+ days before the start date of your camper’s session will be subject to a full refund, minus the $75 registration fee. If Shrine Mont Camps cancels a session, all registered campers will receive a full (100%) refund. This will allow us to still prepare for a strong summer, and should allow families to register with confidence that if things change, they won’t lose out on their financial investment.

  • Question: How will camp remain a healthy and safe place for everyone?

    • We will follow current CDC and Virginia Department of Health guidelines for communal living and large gatherings, and keep up to date on them. This may mean a true restructuring of camp, and we are up to the challenge. It will most certainly mean stronger and clearer guidelines around our cleaning and pre-camp screening processes. We will keep in touch as we update these guidelines.

  • When are paper health forms (school physical copies) due now?

    • We've extended the due date to June 1st!
